If you are struggling to stay motivated on tasks, goal setting is a really useful tool. Here are some useful tips for goal setting and how to use it to achieve.
Don’t make your goals vague
If one of your goals is simply ‘have a successful business’, you’ll constantly feel like you are still working towards it. Success is objective, and even though you may have a business that is doing well in a year’s time you may still be able to find flaws in what you are doing. Instead, make your goals specific, for example, ‘turnover £20,000 next year’.
Have small goals and big goals
Ideally, you should have daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals. Your daily and weekly goals are more like tasks, whereas your monthly and annual goals will focus on profits and statistics. Make sure that you have a range of goals, especially little ones that will still give you a sense of pride when you hit them.
Make sure your goals are realistic
If you are just starting out, it’s not realistic to think that you will be a millionaire this time next year. Try to make your goals both a challenge and achievable; be realistic by looking at what other businesses in your niche have done and considering your own personal situation.
Don’t get upset if you don’t hit your goals
If you don’t meet your goals, don’t beat yourself up – just try again. Nobody, not even Bill Gates, hits their goals 100% of the time – but persistence is why businesses succeed.
Work towards achieving your goals
It’s simple, but a lot of people forget this part! Once you’ve set your (realistic) goals, make sure that you work to achieve them every single day with small achievable goals.
It’s also helpful if you adopt certain tactics and ways of thinking to help you achieve your goals. For example, hypnotherapy is an effective way to change the way that you think about certain things – in this case, your goals. Spend a bit of time each week on hypnotherapy and other positive thinking methods to help you with this. You can read more about hypnotherapy here on our blog.
