Starting an NLP practice can be slightly daunting, but don’t forget, you’re about to make a big difference to people’s lives. When it comes to therapy or life coaching, you’ll need a certain set of skills. But what are some of the common mistakes people make when starting an NLP practice? Here we discuss some of these, and how to avoid them:

Attempting to coach absolutely everyone

We’d all love to think that we can help everyone, but more often than not, this simply isn’t the case. If you’re wanting to be seen as a respectable and professional NLP practice, it might be a good idea to have a niche. Narrowing your audience may seem risky at the beginning, but it’ll give your clients more confidence in your specific abilities. Use your skillsets to aim your practice at people who will benefit from these specialities, whether that's children's development, business strategy, phobias or health and wellness.

Forgetting that your practice is also a business

Your NLP practice will largely rely upon your specific skill – whether this is therapy or life coaching – but it’s important to remember that there are other aspects of a business that also need to be considered. Being good at your profession will be useless to your practice if you’re no good at running a business at the same time.

Assuming that clients will immediately come

Every owner of an NLP practice will tell you the same thing – finding your first client is hard. Finding your second client is also hard. Once you’ve established your name and have a loyal group of clients, things get easier. To do this, however, you’ll need to put yourself out there and use your initiative. Networking, marketing, and making connections is absolutely vital, particularly whilst you’re trying to build a client base.

Spending too much time making plans

It’s true that starting an NLP practice takes a lot of preparation, but it’s important to find a balance. Planning is rendered useless if there’s nothing getting done at the same time. You don’t need everything to be perfectly set up before you start productively running your business. The sooner you can start reaching out to clients, the sooner you can start running a successful NLP practice. Here at IGNLP, we can assist you in building your NLP business. Take the first step, and don’t hesitate to get in touch for guidance or advice.
